Students, teachers, parents and family convened to celebrate the sciences in March at the 35th Annual Coriell Science Fair.
A community-driven event involving schools in Burlington, Camden and Gloucester counties, the longest running South Jersey science fair is an opportunity for students in grades 6-12 to showcase their aptitude and engage with scientific professionals.
"Every great scientist shares at least one important commonality," says Dr. Michael Christman, president and CEO of Coriell Institute, "and that is the determination to ask questions and seek answers. It's a trait these students have nurtured from a young age and it's encouraging to witness firsthand how dedicated they are to exploring concepts and testing boundaries."
With the support of teachers and parents alike, Coriell Fair participants spend months outlining and conducting experiments, recording results and then preparing detailed poster boards to display on Fair day. A panel of volunteer judges composed of professors, scientists, business and health experts interview the students and evaluate the projects.
Top finishers at the Coriell Fair advance to the regional finals – the Delaware Valley Science Fair – March 29-31 at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pennsylvania.
Additionally, category winners and standout entries were recognized with awards, monetary prizes and college scholarships.
