LYSOSOMAL TRANSPORT PROCESSES |
Pisoni and Thoene (J Biol Chem 264:4850-4856,1989) investigated the manner in which nucleosides resulting from the lysosomal degredation of nucleic acids were released from lysosomes. Lysosomal adenosine uptake studies indicated that the uptake was saturable and specifically, competitively inhibited by other nucleosides. The authors concluded that this indicated the existence of a carrier-mediated transport system for nucleosides within fibroblast lysosomal membranes. |
