Coriell Institute for Medical Research
NEUROLOGICALLY NORMAL WHITE CONTROL PANEL
Catalog ID: NDPT096

Brief Description
This panel contains 5 micrograms of DNA/well from 94 unique and unrelated White non-Hispanic individuals without neurological disorders. Of these, 47 are males and 47 females, with an age range at collection from 58-88 years. All are from North America. As an internal control, ND12524 appears twice on the panel, in B07 and well H12. Well E10 is empty for addition of a laboratory control.

Data collected on these subjects consisted of Control Clinical Data Elements as outlined in the Coriell NINDS Genetics Repository guidelines. These data elements were developed to be consistent with other NIH healthy control sample collections including that of the National Institute on Aging Late Onset Alzheimer's Disease Consortium (LOAD). These data include a detailed medical and family history.

None of the subjects on the panel have a history of neurological illness in themselves. All were asked specifically regarding the following disorders, which were not present: Alzheimer's, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, ataxia, autism, bipolar disorder, cerebrovascular disease (aneurysm and stroke), dementia, epilepsy, dystonia, migraine, multiple sclerosis, muscle disease, Parkinson's disease, and schizophrenia. The majority (56 of 94) were also specifically asked about Tourette syndrome, which was not present. None have any first degree relative with a known primary neurological disorder. Specifically none have a family history of any first degree relative with any of the following disorders: Alzheimer's, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, ataxia, autism, bipolar disorder, cerebrovascular disease (aneurysm and stroke), dementia, epilepsy, dystonia, migraine, multiple sclerosis, muscle disease, Parkinson's disease, and schizophrenia.

All samples and data were collected with informed consent under local IRB approved protocols. These samples are generously shared by by Drs. Edward Kasarskis, Merit Cudkowicz, Eric Sorenson, Rup Tandan, Robert Miller, Petra Kaufmann, Paul Gordon, Robert Brown Jr., Zbigniew Wzolek, Dennis Dickson, James Russell, David Lacomis, Jim Caress, Charles Thornton, Richard Bedlack, Leo McCluskey, Jaya Trivedi, Zachary Simmons, Jeremy Shefner, Carlayne Jackson, Ashok Verma, Gazala Hayat, Catherine Lomen-Hoerth, Nickolas Maragakis, Catherine Lomen-Hoerth, David Chad, Daragh Heitzman, Alan Pestronk, Tahseen Mozaffar, Richard Barohn, Amanda Peltier, John Chapin, Kevin Boylan, Paul Barkhaus, Eric Pioro, Tulio Bertorini, Kimberly Goslin, James Wymer, Yadollah Harati, John Hardy, and Andrew Singleton.

Other Healthy Controls, Positive Controls
Control samples from individuals without neurological disease and with a range of clinical data are available via the NINDS Repository catalogue. Single samples from this panel can also be obtained, individually. Positive control samples for known causal genes are available, as listed, under specific disorders (see NINDS Repository catalog).
