Remarks |
The donor had a history of dementia with a gradual decline in mental function since age 68 years. Autopsy of brain revealed neuritic plaques, neurons with 'tangles' and the granulovacuolar change of Simcowicz consistent with Alzheimer's disease. Indications of Parkinson's disease were also found including degeneration of the substantia nigra and locus coeruleus and neurons with Lewy bodies. The culture was initiated on 6/12/85 by transformation of lymphocytes with Epstein Barr virus using a post-mortem blood specimen. The cells grow in suspension and their morphology is sperical. The karyotype is 46,XY; normal diploid male with 2% of the cells examined showing random chromosome loss. A skin fibroblast culture from same donor is AG08245. The legacy karyotype description shown in this Remark may not be representative of the current available product. |
