Angus breed. The age of the donor is estimated. The thoracic aorta was removed immediately post-mortem on 12/3/85. Strips of the medial layer of the vessel were removed, minced, and used as explants to initiate the culture. The cell morphology is fibroblast-like. The culture tested positive for alpha-smooth muscle actin and negative for the endothelial cell-specific von Willebrand factor (immunofluorescence assays). |
