The Woodland Community Development Corporation honored the Coriell Institute for Medical Research’s late President and CEO, Michael F. Christman, PhD, over the weekend by giving a local student an award in his name.
Woodland CDC held its Annual Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at Valleybrook Country Club in Blackwood, New Jersey. Sixteen juniors from Highland Regional High School, Lindenwold High School and Winslow High School received certificates of achievement for completing a cost free Kaplan led eight-week three-hour college prep SAT course at Rowan Medical School in Stratford, NJ.
The highlight of the event was the recognition of the first annual Dr. Michael F. Christman Award given to Kamryn Kennedy, a junior at Highland Regional High School for attaining the highest score on the Pre SAT exam.
Dr. Christman was the CEO of the Coriell Institute for Medical Research prior to his death at the end of 2017. Dr. Christman joined the Coriell Institute in 2007 and quickly established the Coriell Personalized Medicine Collaborative, an innovative study which looked into the ways a person's genes can affect their health and helped them communicate those risks with their doctors, and successfully oversaw the Institute's world-renowned biobanks and many other scientific endeavors.
Coriell assisted in sponsoring the luncheon.
