International HapMap Project Samples Have Impact on Population-based Genetic Anlaysis

In a recent publication, researchers utilized information from the online HapMap database in a comparison study to validate the association of 10 SNPs identified by Genome-Wide Association Study (GWAS) for Kawasaki Disease (KD) in a Chinese Population.

The study concluded that four of the SNPs investigated were only nominally associated with KD susceptibility. This conclusion was consistent with the results of a previous study and could also be corroborated with data downloaded from the HapMap online database. Additionally, findings such as these may prove helpful for further research on KD etiology and pathogenesis. 

This study praised the advances of high-throughput genotyping and the increased role of consortiums and biobanks for providing samples that have created “a new era of molecular genetics”. Such resources have provided a means for rapid and efficient GWASs, which have in turn had a great impact on research on KD, such as the samples from the International HapMap Project mentioned in this investigation.
