John P. Sheridan Jr., president and CEO of the Cooper University Health System and a visionary South Jersey business leader, was killed in a house fire early Sunday morning, along with his wife, Joyce.
The blaze was contained to an upstairs bedroom in the couple's home in Skillman, Somerset County. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
Sheridan was a prominent fixture in the community with ties to several organizations, including the Coopers Ferry Partnership, the Ronald McDonald House of Southern New Jersey, the New Jersey Hospital Association, and the Coriell Institute for Medical Research.
"John was essential to the effort of transforming Camden and South Jersey into the state's center for healthcare innovations," says Dr. Michael Christman, president and CEO of Coriell.
"As a partner in several endeavors, I had the privilege of working closely alongside John and experiencing firsthand his keen insights and unwavering passion to revitalize the community. His voice, direction and impact will be impossible to replace."
