Over the course of five days at the end of April, upwards of 9,000 technology leaders and business entrepreneurs gathered for the 2014 IBM Impact Conference in Las Vegas, NV.
At the center of all the action was Scott Megill, president and CEO of Coriell Life Sciences (CLS), the for-profit spinoff venture of Coriell Institute that aims to facilitate the storage, interpretation and application of genetic information.
Megill took to the stage during day two of the general session presentation to share the promising story of CLS, the 2014 IBM "Entrepreneur of the Year" and an organization empowered by innovation and novel IT solutions.
"None of this was possible ten years ago; it wasn't feasible five years ago. Today, I'm thrilled to say that we've built it," Megill told a packed auditorium of influential industry figures while describing the revolutionary health management system CLS has developed.
The conference focused on the powerful growth potential inherent in technological exploration and adoption. In addition to detailing the capabilities of IBM's SoftLayer infrastructure, which houses CLS' proprietary genetic ecosystem in the cloud, Megill also outlined the significance of harnessing Watson technology to create a real-time prescription regimen tool for physicians that has the potential to reshape the modern healthcare model.
