NJ Assemblyman Andrew Zwicker Tours Coriell Institute

10/2019

We at the Coriell Institute for Medical Research were pleased to welcome New Jersey Assemblyman Andrew Zwicker and members of his staff to our Camden Facility on Thursday.

Assemb. Zwicker represents the state’s 16th Legislative District and is the chair of the New Jersey Assembly’s Science, Innovation, and Technology Committee, a fitting post for a physicist from Princeton University.

Zwicker and Coriell leadership discussed the current state of the scientific community in the Garden State and areas in which the private, nonprofit, and public sectors might be able to collaborate and foster growth.

Specifically, the group discussed NIH funding in New Jersey and how to position the state and its biomedical research institutions to attract more of these dollars. As chair of the Science, Innovation and Technology Committee, Assemblyman Zwicker will be a key ally in leveraging these dollars to bolster the Garden State’s economy, create more jobs and further cement its position at the forefront of the biotech boom.

The visit ended with a tour of Coriell in which the Central Jersey lawmaker and science advocate was shown Coriell’s state-of-the-art Stem Cell Lab where our talented team creates induced pluripotent stem cells from skin or blood cells, as well as our cryogenic storage facility where we store millions of vials of cells and DNA for use in research around the world.

We greatly appreciate Assemblyman Zwicker’s time and look forward to working with him on advancing the state's science ecosystem.
